Draupadi Murmu is an Indian politician who is currently serving as the 15th President of India since July 25, 2022. She was born on 20 June 1958 in a Sanali tribal community in Odisha, India. Draupadi Murmu belongs to Santali Tribe in Odisha. Draupadi Murmu village name is Uparbeda village in the Baidaposi area of Rairangpur, Odisha. Before entering politics, she worked as a clerk in the State Irrigation and Power Department from 1979 to 1983 and subsequently as a teacher in Rairangpur until 1997.Murmu began her political career as a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Rairangpur Assembly constituency from 2000 to 2009, and also served as Minister of State (Independent Charge), Government of Odisha from 2000 to 2004. She has also served as the 9th Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021, before being elected as the President of India.Draupadi Murmu holds the distinction of being the first person from the tribal community to hold the office of President in India and the second woman after Pratibha Patil. She is also the youngest person to serve as President and the first to be born in Independent India.

Draupadi Murmu born in Santali Tribe Family in Odisha. Draupadi Murmu's father Biranchi Narayan Tudu was a farmer. Her father and grandfather were village heads under the Panchayati Raj Systems (Sarpanch). Draupadi Murmu's Husband name was Shyam Charan Murmu. He was a banker who died in 2014. They had two sons, unfortunately both of them passed away. Draupadi Murmu's daughter name is Itishri Murmu. She is an Indian banker, who works at UCO bank.
Draupadi Murmu Education Qualification
At age five, Murmu moved to Bhubaneswar for higher studies. She studied elementary education at the local primary school in Uparbeda and completed secondary education from Girl's High School Unit-2. Murmu then graduated with a B.A. degree from Rama Devi Women's College.
Early Career
Draupadi Murmu Started her career as a teacher. She worked as a junior assistant at the irrigation department of the Government of Odisha from 1979 to 1983. Later, from 1994 to 1997, she worked as a teacher at the school Sri Aurobindo Integral Education and Research Centre in Rairangpur, where she taught Odia, Hindi, Geography and Maths.
Political Career
In 1997, Droupadi Murmu was elected as the councillor of the Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat as an independent candidate from a reserved seat for women. Then she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1997 and won the 2000 Odisha Legislative Assembly election from Rairangpur Assembly constituency. Draupadi Murmu served two terms in the Odisha Legislative Assembly between 2000 and 2009. During the BJP and BJD coalition government in Odisha, she was the Minister of State with Independent Charge for Commerce and Transportation from 6 March 2000 to 6 August 2002, and Fisheries and Animal Resources Development from 6 August 2002 to 16 May 2004. Murmu was elected to the BJP National Executive (ST Morcha) in 2013 and was the district president until 2015.
Draupadi Murmu as 15th President of India
On July 25, 2022, Draupadi Murmu took oath as the 15th President of India. The outgoing President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Murmu arrived in the Parliament in a ceremonial procession shortly before the swearing-in commenced. Murmu's oath was administered by the Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana in the Central Hall of Parliament.
Murmu addressed the nation for the first time as the President of India, on 14 August 2022, Independence day eve. She greeted the citizens of the country on the 75th Independence. In her first address as the President of the world's largest democracy, Draupadi Murmu thanked MPs and MLAs for electing her as the first tribal President of India. She said, "I am the first President of the country who was born in Independent India. We will have to speed up our efforts to meet the expectations that our freedom fighters had with the citizens of Independent India."
